Hi, I'm Julian, 26 years old. I started programming when I was 9, studied computer science at TU Munich and KTH Stockholm, co-founded the wildly successful German FinTech Divizend at 19 and then became enchanted with the Burning Man-inspired culture of The Borderland at 22. I saw that the way how we design and run software directly influences the health of the people. I stand for more trust, more sovereignty, more decentralization, more art, more effective resource use, more democracy, a more holistic understanding of wealth, less AI and less accumulation of primitive forms of capital like money and property. I already saw so much beauty in the world, and I want to empower everyone to make full use of all the stunning possibilities we have in the world. Bureaucracy too often stands in the way. Personally, I do all my cybermagic only because I want to live in nature and never have to work on a desk or in front of a screen again.
I consider myself a polymath too, but the way how I intend to integrate all of my different interests is to create universal administrative software. My intention is: "everyone should become able to found and operate anything", no matter if they are self-employed or want to create an association or company, no matter how local or international, no matter what they offer or produce. With that, instead of getting lost in realizing more specific skills (all of which would require administrative structures later to be brought into reality anyway, both internally and externally, both to interface with other people and businesses and with governments), I work on the practical open source operational meta-layer first, which is going to be the gateway for me and everyone else in the world to eventually not just learn about but actually act out and earn money with a very diverse set of skills, so that both me and everyone else can realize their full potential in regards to production of good and services without needing to worry about bureaucracy and business administration.

I want to build systems that solve “bureaucracy anxiety” — the conditioned fear of paperwork some people carry. I believe that excessive bureaucracy is a form of violence, mainly used to exclude certain people from doing certain things. Based on the personal knowledge graph, I want to create the “Wikipedia of forms” — a path through which any form in the world can be filled.
Borderland already does it at a scale of almost 5,500 people every year: a few months before the event, people get access to a web platform where they can submit all their ideas — including budget planning. About half of the total budget covers fixed costs like electricity and water (the “realities”), but the other half flows into these “dreams”. In the second step, people vote with the money they already paid for their tickets anyway. It's like a mini-crowdfunding within the organization — no new money comes in, and people can give €5 to one project, €10 to another, or however they please. Budgetary decision-making is fully decentralized; apart from rough guidelines, not even the board has any say in what comes to the event. I want this model of participatory budgeting to become accessible to any organization.
I often notice how my mind and body rebel against all this hyper-symbolic “tech, finance and bureaucracy” stuff. Everything I do in tech is a means to an end, as I really long for the way of life of my ancestors: being a farmer.
